Just as Instagram’s current layout was inspired by many Snapchat features, Netflix is drawing its design cues from the former.
The streaming service’s app has gained an Instagram-like feed called Extras that displays trailers, photos and other content from shows on the platform, Variety reported on Wednesday.
No ad to show here.
These trailers and images function how an Instagram Story would: videos play automatically, while images are scrollable albeit vertically.
Called ‘Exras’ the new feature is only available to some users in a limited test run
Users can also add the shows recommended to them on the feed via a “My List” or “Share” the trailer or image.
It seems to be a trial at present as confirmed by a “Netflix spokesperson” to the publication, and only a small number of users are currently seeing the addition.
Those who can however can access the feature by tapping a button at the bottom of the app. Variety notes that the new addition to Netflix’s UI doesn’t replace any other elements.
Netflix has been testing a number of tweaks to its app UI, including an Instagram Stories-like roll called “mobile previews” which debuted in April last year.
