The 2019 BET awards took place in Los Angeles this weekend, commemorating some of the biggest stars in the music and movie industry.
The night was one of musical performances and emotional speeches, with a healthy dose of Twitter commentary too.

One of the more emotional moments came with a tribute to rapper Nipsey Hussel, who was shot and killed earlier this year.

Fans were also moved by Tyler Perry, who gave an acceptance speech after receiving the ultimate icon award.
The star spoke about the importance of helping people “cross” the figurative road to reach their dreams.

South Africans had cause to celebrate too when our very own singer Sho Madjozi took the award for best new international act.
