“The first season follows Lyra, a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. Her search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children,” HBO said on its YouTube channel.
The trailer features many of the story’s beloved characters, played by the likes of James McAvoy, Dafne Keen and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The series will be the second screen adaptation of the fantasy, which was first brought to life by Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman in 2007’s The Golden Compass, based on the first book of the trilogy.
The story is one where magic, religion and physics come together in a fantastical world.
His Dark Material season one will stream on HBO towards the end of 2019.
