Here’s how South Africans spent their 67 minutes on Nelson Mandela Day 2019

Mandela Day is now very much a part of South African culture. It’s a day where we all strive to give back to the community for at least 67 minutes to honour the birth of late former president Nelson Mandela.

With variations of the hashtags #MandelaDay2019 and #67Minutes dominating Twitter throughout Thursday, here’s how South Africans celebrated giving back.

Some, of course, got down to community engagement, volunteering and giving in general.

Others didn’t miss the opportunity to comment on the state of the country.

And many took a moment to remember, and quote, Madiba himself.

Nelson Mandela, who died in 2013, would have been 101 years old today.
