The latest offering is Standard Bank’s latest attempt to fuse financial and mobile services, a sector that its rival FNB has already established itself.

Through Standard Bank Mobile, users can now purchase select Samsung, Apple, and Huawei phones through “an extended payment facility or Standard Bank credit card accounts” over 24 months.
The devices offered fit a number of price points, from the budget Samsung’s Galaxy A2 Core to the premium iPhone XS.
Users can accrue free voice and data while paying off their devices through their Standard Bank accounts
“This convenient alternative to securing a 24-month contract with a Mobile Network Operator will also enable Standard Bank customers to enjoy the benefit of free voice and data to the value of their monthly banking fees,” noted the bank in a release.
Users also get 1MB of data for every R10 they spend on swipes, and Ucount points can also contribute towards free data.
Standard Bank is also considering more liquid payment options over 12 and 36 month periods, as well as introducing insurance to phones at a later date.
