YouTube to discontinue direct messages feature in September

YouTube on Thursday announced that it will remove the direct messages feature on its platform in September.

“We’re constantly reevaluating our priorities and have decided to discontinue YouTube’s native direct messaging feature while we focus on improving public conversations,” the company said on its help page.

Direct messages allow users to send videos directly to other users, but YouTube wants to keep such conversations public.

Users will, however, still be able to share videos from YouTube on to other social media platforms via the share icon.

The direct messages feature will be removed on 18 September.
