Like Instagram, Facebook is considering hiding like counts on posts

Facebook is testing a new feature that hides the number of likes posts receive on the platform, a report by researcher Jane Manchun Wong on Monday revealed.

According to Wong, the feature masks likes and reactions from all but the person who made the post.

Back in April, Instagram also began testing a similar feature that hides the total number of likes on posts, and last week, YouTube began abbreviating subscriber counts as well.

The changes, according to the companies, are meant to support healthier social media experiences by reducing the amount of pressure users are known to feel when chasing likes and followers for popularity.

If the change become permanent, users will still be able to see the activity on their Facebook pages and posts, they just won’t be able to compare them with others.
