New month, new list of content coming to Netflix South Africa and Showmax. Because choosing is an impossible task, we’ve rounded up ten shows that you should sink your teeth into across both streaming services.
Have at it below.

The Politician (Season 1)
Starring Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Lange, The Politician is a musical comedy about the comedy of running for the presidency of the United States.
But, of course, for Peyton Hobart (Platt) this is still a few years away.
Catch it on Netflix from 27 September.
Now Apocalypse (S1)
Set in Los Angeles and centred around four friends, one of which has dreams about the impending doom of the Earth. That, or he just smoked too much weed.
Catch it on Showmax from 2 September.
Disenchantment (Part 2)
Daddy’s favourite disappointment is back. Bean shows us just how much Elfo means to her, and how much of a leader she’s destined to become.
Also, prepare for that weird Matt Groening humour we all know and love, starring the voices of Abbi Jacobson, Eric Andre and John DiMaggio.
Catch Disenchantment‘s second part on Netflix from 20 September.
Los Espookys
We probably all love a bit of horror now and again, but the cast of Los Espookys transform their love into a really strange (ie awesome) business.
It stars Bernado Velasco, Julio Torres and Cassandra Ciangherotti.
It’s Spanish comedy at its best, produced by SNL’s Fred Armisen, and you can catch the first season on Showmax on 2 September.
Explained (S2)
Netflix and Vox’s documentary series Explained is back for a second season of episodes about dreaming, anxiety and the brilliance of the human brain.
Catch it on Netflix from 26 September.
American Princess (S1)
What happens when a woman ditches her wedding day (for a very good reason) and winds up at a renaissance fair? And not only that, escapes her life by accepting a job offer?
That’s the question Lifetime show American Princess tries to answer.
The show stars Georgia Flood, Lucas Neff and Seana Kofoed and hits Showmax on 2 September.
Elite (S3)
Elite is another Spanish-language show on this list, but it has a completely different tone to Los Espookys.
The show focusses on the students at a prestigious school in Spain, more particularly three working class kids. Teen issues? Sure. That is until a classmate ends up dead. Murder? Maybe.
The show stars a pretty large cast, but Itzan Escamilla, Miguel Herran, and Mina El Hammani play the aforementioned kids.
The show’s second season debuts on Netflix on 6 September.
Veep (S7)
It’s sad we have to say it, but this is Veep‘s final season. Still, you can enjoy Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the starring role as Selina Meyer, vice president of the US, tries to make an impact without making an impact.
It’s complicated. And brilliant. And also stars Anna Chlumsky and Tony Hale.
The final season hits Showmax on 2 September.
Jack Whitehall: Travels with my Father (S3)
Hiding behind Jack Whitehall’s (and his dad’s) schoolboy humour, lies a great story about family ties, a British man’s visit to America, and how reality shows don’t always have to bring tears of sadness to your eyes.
(Rather, tears of severe stomach pain after laughing for the entire episode.)
Jack Whitehall: Travels with my Father returns for its third season on 27 September.
Glam Guru (S13 – S15)
South Africa’s Afrikaans feel good makeover show is strangely therapeutic. It’s not as tear-inducing as Queer Eye, but it gives viewers some valuable styling and makeup tips for gratis.
Catch seasons 13 through 15 on Showmax from 9 September.
