Vodacom warns users against social media ‘loyalty’ scam

Vodacom is warning its users against a scam floating around on social media.

While it first made its Twitter users aware of its existence on 23 September, and Facebook later that month, users are today receiving SMSes detailing the information.

“Vodacom has been made aware of a scam circulating on social media titled ‘Vodacom Customer Loyalty Programme’ Vodacom has no such promotion currently,” read the message.

“We urge all our customers to be vigilant and contact us online or via customer care centre on 135 should they encounter any promotions they suspect are not official,” it added.

In its Facebook post, Vodacom explained the mechanics of the scam in more detail.

Users are encouraged to “complete a poll to stand a chance to win a Samsung, iPhone or iPad Pro”.

“It further states that, randomly selected winners will be required to cover delivery costs to have their gift couriered to them.”

“Please take note that this is a scam and is not in any way related to Vodacom or our partners,” it concluded.
