At AfricaCom 2019 this week South African internet service provider YahClick announced that it’s bringing WiFi hotspots to under-served communities in the Western Cape and Gauteng.
“YahClick Express WiFi provides hotspots for access to reliable VSAT (very-small-aperture-terminal) internet connectivity at public touchpoints including tuck shops, taxi ranks, taverns, and spaza shops,” the company said in a press release.

Unlike the recently launched Google Station hotspots, however, the service will not provide free, unlimited access to the internet.
“Users access the service by purchasing data packages from local vendors. When activated, the package provides short sessions of internet coverage in close proximity to the hotspot,” YahClick explained.
The company did not reveal how much data packages will cost, or how long the internet sessions will last.
Still, the introduction of hotspots in these areas will allow more people to have access to the online world thanks to YahClick.
Currently, hotspots are live in the Western Cape and Gauteng, with plans for a wider roll-out in 2020.
