Vodacom customers can now purchase products from the Microsoft and Xbox online stores through their Vodacom account, the mobile network announced on Monday.
Microsoft is now listed on Vodacom’s Direct Charge to Bill programme, which lets users to settle purchases from a number of companies through their Vodacom bills.

“In line with Vodacom’s gaming strategy, partnering with Microsoft enables Vodacom customers broader access to high-quality gaming content through the Xbox Store,” the company explained in a press release.
“In addition, Vodacom customers are able to add apps and software services from the Microsoft Store to their Vodacom account.”
Vodacom believes that this partnership will help the unbanked in South Africa bridge the digital divide.
“Not only does the service allow for increased simplicity and safety in how Vodacom delivers premium content to our customers, but it will also bridge the gap to access of such content to the unbanked in South Africa,” said Jorge Mendes, Vodacom’s chief of its consumer business unit.
“This allows Vodacom customers to conveniently charge any purchase, from entertainment to games, and apps to software, to their Vodacom account in a safe, simple and secure manner without having to use a credit card.”
Microsoft joins other companies in Vodacom’s Direct Charge to Bill programme, including the likes of Showmax and DStv Now.
