The Grand Theft Auto series is not without its spectacle and every game in the lengthy history of this violent, yet deeply enjoyable open-world extravaganza has sold millions of copies.

What will we find in Grand Theft Auto V? Each series has been a touchstone of sights and sounds set in a different, iconic city. GTA III, the first 3D entry into the series was set in a version of New York City, called Liberty City to avoid obvious comparisons.

As technology improved, Rockstar upped the ante, introduced celebrity voices and took the setting into a fictionalised Miami with Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Before moving on to the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms, Rockstar concluded its last-gen tale with its largest game yet, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Grand Theft Auto IV, while exceptional in scope lacked, the playground feel of Vice City and San Andreas. Despite this, it went on to sell well over 15 million units and enjoy quasi-sequels in the form of The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony.

When Grand Theft Auto IV rolled onto the scene, it brought with it a picture-perfect recreation of New York City, complete with millions of dollars worth of licensed audio tracks. How will Grand Theft Auto V top the spectacle and pure showmanship of previous titles? Where will it be set? What songs will they be playing on the radio as players cruise through dirty back alleys in the dead of night? All will be revealed when the Grand Theft Auto V trailer unlocks on November 2.
