Price-wise, the TX200V is the dearest at US$500. The WX70 and WX50 cost US$200 and US$230 respectively.

The TX200V is priced close to a high-end smartphone for a simple reason. It looks exactly like a high-end smartphone. Somehow, Sony has made the TX200V mirror the iPhone as much as legally possible.

The TX200V

The TX200V cuts the cord on clutter. The camera is hugged by flat glass on both sides of the device, yet unlike the iPhone, the TX200V boasts a waterproof case to a depth of five meters. A 5x, non-protruding zoom and 18MP sensor round out the impressive internals. Sony dubs the 3.3-inch OLED touchscreen “Xtra Fine”. Doubtless the display will be crisper than the norm. The fat is trimmed even further, with only three physical buttons controlling the device: zoom, shutter and power.

The WX70 and WX50

The new “budget” models are similar in all but design. Both cameras’ internal specifications are the same. But, where the WX70 differs from the WX50 is in design. The WX70 is the bimbo version of the TX200V. Same looks, less brainpower. The WX50 has the smaller screen at 2.7-inches. The WX70 has a slightly smaller screen than the TX200V at 3-inches across, it also has a 640×480 resolution.

Both cameras share a 5x zoom, 16MP sensor and can capture in full-HD, or 1080p. All of the new cameras come standard with a back-illuminated sensor (BSI) to increase the amount of captured light, this makes the devices ideal for night-time shooting.

For US$500, the average user could get their hands on a fairly impressive point and click such as the Canon PowerShot S100. At this price, users are paying for Sony style, waterproof shooting and sex appeal. Who are we to judge?
