Are you part of the one percent of users Loving Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS)? Get ready to pick your jaw off the floor as Android 5.0, dubbed “Jelly Bean” may launch in the second quarter of 2012.

According to sources (the supply chain maker itself), Android 5.0 will be “further optimised for PC’s while Google will also integrate its Chrome system functions to push dual-operating system designs. Brand vendors can either choose to adopt only Android 5.0 or add Android 5.0 to Windows 8 devices with the ability to switch between the two OSes without the need to shut down the computer.”
Google will reportedly release Jelly Bean as competition for Windows 8, which Microsoft plans to launch in the third quarter of 2012. Being able to switch between OS’ may be the ace in the hole which netbooks and notebooks need to push off the advancing reign of the tablets. God help laptops if a dual-booting tablet is ever released.
Why release a new version of Android? Apparently, Google wants to try again with the netbook and notebook market, this after the disastrous Chromebook was largely ignored by the laptop market.
And, says Google, Android 4.0 hasn’t been performing up to its wildest expectations. Let’s be blunt though, Google is refusing to release ICS on anything but the very best devices, such as the Galaxy Nexus. Only one percent of all Android devices have been activated with Android 4.0. How can Google, therefore, instantly dismiss ICS as a failure? Will this lead to a conservative stance towards Jelly Bean from users and manufacturers alike?
