- Windows 8 includes “charms”, Microsoft’s new name for “options”.
- Touchscreen is where it’s at, with Microsoft saying that even users with “reduced accuracy” can mix and match mouse and touch control for faster navigation.
- Apps rule the roost — users can now download apps, Windows Store is ready for business. Unlike in the Developer Preview which locked out the App Store. - The Metro UI and traditional Windows desktop will work in tandem. Microsoft promises that the desktop isn’t going away anytime soon.
Does Windows 8 Consumer Preview deliver a new way of working within the framework Windows set down so many decades ago? We say hang on, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
