LG has started mass-producing in-cell touch displays prompting the question as to whether consumers will find the technology in LG’s new quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro smartphone. It has been rumoured that the next iPhone will get in-cell touch technology, but with LG actually producing the displays, it should be obvious that its new smartphone would get in-cell touch too.

With a release date sometime this fall, the new LG smartphone will have some pretty heavy specifications. It will certainly need to in order to stay on the radar in the high-end smartphone market. The details are still in rumor form, but they read something like this: quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, 4.7-inch 720p IPS LCD display (with possible in-cell touch technology) and a 13MP camera.
Pretty serious specifications, but what about that screen? In-cell touch technology is the next step in screen progress because it allows manufacturers to develop significantly slimmer devices while still being able to keep them powerful. Instead of having separate layers for the LCD and touch recognition, they are integrated to make one seamless screen. This will certainly open the floodgates for new designs for smartphones too. Let’s hope we will see some radical ultra-thin smartphones pretty soon.
