The new Wikipad gaming tablet has been released, bringing yet another independent gaming platform to the market.
With a price tag of US$499 it’s been thrown into the deep end against stiff competition in the form of the new Kindle Fire HD, which starts at only US$299 and the new iPad, which starts at US$499. So what does the Wikipad offer that its competitors don’t? A gaming focus to start and if you didn’t notice, there’s a huge-ass gaming controller on the side. It is detachable, meaning it can be used as a tablet for something else besides games. Also, you won’t look like a super geek who bought a tablet solely for gaming.

The 10.1-inch IPS display has a resolution of 1280 x 800, putting it on par with most 10-inch tablets and also features Gorilla Glass for some added strength. It’s super thin at 8.6mm, and weighs only 560 grams without the gaming controls. Inside is an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor with Android Ice Cream Sandwich running things.
It’s not just any gaming tablet either. It boasts both Google Play for games and Nvidia’s Tegra Zone store, as well as the Playstation Mobile platform. The physical controls add a more tactile dimension to the tablet experience, perhaps giving the Wikipad an edge over its competitors.
