Xbox 720 launch possibly delayed until 2014

If you thought you were going to get the new Xbox 720 by next year, you might have to rethink how to spend your hard-earned cash. It might be an even longer wait for the super-console to be released.

Even though Microsoft won’t acknowledge the existence of the 360’s successor, there have been details leaked that say otherwise. The newest information — thanks to Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan — is that the Xbox 720 will most likely not have a 2013 release date.

Pachter had this to say: “We have heard no word yet from Microsoft or Sony about their plans to launch new consoles, but both manufacturers are widely expected to launch consoles by year-end 2013,” Pachter said in an industry note. “Although, we believe that Microsoft could delay a new console launch until spring of 2014 in order to accommodate what is certain to be overwhelming demand among hardcore gamers.”

It seems Nintendo will have the market to themselves for quite a while when they launch their Wii U later this year. But hardcore gamers will have to be happy with their Xbox 360s or PS3s for the time being until Sony and Microsoft reinvent gaming addiction.
