Delta Six: the gun-shaped controller hits Kickstarter, gets a makeover

You know you’ve got something going for you when you actually have to redesign your custom-designed controller because it looks too much like a real gun. That’s what’s happened to the inventor of the Delta Six: the rifle-shaped controller that will make using a conventional chunk of plastic seem archaic.

David Kotkin, the man behind the controller, changed the prototype after some reports suggested it it looked too threatening and not enough like a toy.

After a few potential investors shied away from the project, Kotkin decided to launch it on Kickstarter today — and the money just keeps on coming. Since I started writing, the amount of money invested in the Delta Six has grown from US$500 to US$4 300. The aim is to raise half a million dollars by 17 November.

The controller, which will be compatible with your favourite FPS on Xbox 360, PS3, PC, the Wii U, and Kickstarter darling OUYA, now has a new white shell and carries an orange tip, which ensures it looks less like a real rifle. It contains an accelerometer to track your movements, enhanced optics in the scope and firing the controller will even give you a dose of faux-kickback.

“We are not trying to shoot and then play golf or bowling,” explains Kotkin. “I am focused like a laser on one thing: making this so good that an owner of a Delta will want to reach for it when playing a first person shooter.”
