The Nikon Corporation has just announced its newest and third addition to the already very popular D5000 and D5100 range, the new D5200. What everyone will be asking first is obviously “how many mega pixels?”, so here it is: effectively 24.1 mega pixels. To be able to squeeze that amount into a sensor the same size as the D5100 is quite impressive, but this the new Nikon DX-format CMOS sensor, producing image quality with very little noise at high sensitivities.

ISO speeds are still the standard 100 to 6400, but additional expansion up to ISO 25600 (Hi 2) is available. Autofocus, automatic-exposure, i-TTL balanced fill-flash and auto white-balance control will be highly improved through the 2 016 pixel RGB sensor, found in high-end Nikon cameras, that is a major improvement from the D5100’s 420 pixels RGB sensor. This delivers more accurate scene brightness and colour information.
Video recording will be at the high end, with full-HD 1920 x 1080 60i/50i movies. There is also a special effects mode that will enable the user to apply various effects for shooting video. The vari-angle LCD monitor will also enable you to shoot from various angles.
The D5200 will also be a more “convenient” model than its older brother, with a new mobile adapter and wireless remote controller. The mobile adapter allows the possibility to be paired to a smart device, be that a smartphone or tablet.
The new D5200 will be available in three colours (why?), and the selling price is expected to be in the range of £720.
