Sony unveil 84-inch Ultra High Def TV pre-loaded with 4K content

Sony has just revealed its latest offering, the XBR-84X900 Ultra HDTV. Set to retail for a sizable US$25 000, it is a little more expensive than LG‘s 84-incher.

The reason for the bigger price tag you might ask? The XBR-84X900 is said to arrive pre-loaded with 4K enabled content, which is the first of its kind. The Ultra HDTV market is fairly small, but Sony will be pinning its hopes on the added 4K delivery system, with the chance that it will entice users to opt for its product instead of the competitors.

Other features include cinematic sound integration offering up to 50 watts worth of output, 3D viewing capability, access to Sony’s Entertainment Network and built-in Wi-Fi for streaming content both to and from the Ultra HDTV. Short of owning a custom home cinema, this Ultra HDTV looks the closest thing to going to the films.

Sony’s Ultra HDTV has already popped up in the US, Japan and Australia with Europe to follow. There has been no indication from Sony on whether or not it will be making its way to smaller markets in Africa and Asia. If you have a kidney to spare, place an order for your XBR-84X900 now.
