Say it isn’t so. The Wikipad, a US$500 Android 4.1 gaming tablet with dockable controls is delayed. Wikipad Inc. has this to say about the delay:
The Wikipad team has been relentlessly working with our manufacturers and partners to perfect the Wikipad bundle to ensure our first product is the best tablet and entertainment experience at launch. There is a last-minute opportunity to enhance the Wikipad bundle as well as a minor refinement needed to ensure our first customers are completely satisfied with the Wikipad.
There’s light at the end of the tunnel for the lucky few who preordered the Wikipad. They’ll get the “refined and upgraded bundle” plus “a special bonus gift”.
So what is the Wikipad and why has it got the internet frothing at the mouth? Wikipad is nothing special at first glance. It’s a 1.4Ghz Tegra 3 CPU-running tablet with a full 1080p display, 16GB internal memory and detachable controls.
It debuted at CES 2012 in Las Vegas and was scheduled for a 31 October launch. It’s a games machine first, with access to Google Play, Playstation Store and Gaikai titles. So that’s a 10.1-inch gaming tablet for the price of two Xbox 360s. Worth it? We’ll find out soon enough when the new launch date is announced.
