For owners of ultra-thin and super-fast laptops, the news of a close to 500GB SSD is something of a coup. Mushkin has announced the “world’s largest capacity mSATA Solid-State Drive”, a 480GB SSD for US$500.

The info provided by Mushkin offers much to chew on, but we’ll break down the most important features for you. Cause you know, we think you’re special like that.

The drive has unthrottled IOPS, which delivers the maximum allowable input/output speed. Next up, we have SATA III with a 6Gbit/s transfer rate.

Mushkin’s 480GB SSD is a tiny little bugger, with measurements of 50.80 x 29.85 x 4.85mm. Here’s a picture to demonstrate the ludicrously small size of this 480GB beast. Sadly, we don’t have the SSD, so butter will have to do.

And it’s wafer thin

Mushkin’s site has the remainder of the details. Come January 2013, the teeny-tiny SSD is going to most likely reshape laptop form factors. Smaller is better, yah know?
