The game is built on the same engine as Killzone 3 and is developed by Guerrilla Cambridge, which has taken over from previous developers Guerrilla Games.

The PS Vita’s rear touch panel will be utilised to some extent together with the main touchscreen. Players are free to choose any tactics and loadouts they want to complete a contract, being rewarded with weapons and contract money. As the official trailer describes: “There is no good. There is no evil. There is only the mission… and the money.”

The game is available on pre-order, and customers who decide to pre-order will receive in-game cash bonuses and access to Backjack’s briefcase which will allow them to purchase new weapons before entering the battlefield.

Jim Ryan, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president, has described Killzone Mercenary as “a completely new game created specifically for Vita to deliver a first-person shooter experience that simply wouldn’t be possible on any other platform.”
