Pentax announces rugged waterproof point-and-shoot cameras

Pentax wg3

Two new cameras, the WG-3 and WG-3 GPS, have arrived in the Pentax collection. Both cameras feature the highest depth rating in the WG series, with a waterproof depth of 14 meters (which is very impressive for a point-and-shoot camera), and the specs are damn good as well for such a compact package.

As would be expected, the WG-3 GPS adds GPS positioning and travel log data to photos, and also features wireless recharging, a digital compass, and a gauge showing water depth, altitude, and pressure. Video recording is up to 1080p HD with a backlit 16-megapixel image sensor and a 9-point auto focus system, as well as spot auto focus and auto tracking AF to capture your images. At the same time, 12 digital image filters and 16 shooting modes make your photography easier, and there is support for Eye-Fi wifi SD cards. Both models also have Pentax’s version of image stabilisation, called sensor-shift shake reduction, as well as high-sensitivity digital reduction.

The GPS model will feature wireless recharging, a digital compass, and a gauge showing water depth, altitude, and pressure. Both models is set for release in April, with the GPS model selling for an expected US$350, while the non-GPS model wills sell for around US$300.
