Eurogamer reports that Sony, despite the internet going insane about this, won’t be blocking second-hand or used Playstation titles. “Do you want us to do that?” said Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida when quizzed about this hot topic. The answer is of course, no. We want to save money, Sony.
Last month, and for most of the year, the internet has been carrying on about this used-games not working on other consoles business. Both next-gen consoles, the PS4 and the new Xbox were said to lock new games onto a console for life. We even incorrectly reported this about the PS4, but how were we to know details until the launch of Sony’s new machine last night?

There was even a patented uncovered that was said to “brand” discs with a “contactless tag” that would hard-code the games physical media to a single machine, for life. Thankfully, it was all rumored nonsense and machines live and die by the second-hand market. It could have all been a ploy by the retail stores, who would like nothing more than to see second-hand sales go down the tubes. With some luck, the next Xbox will sidestep this used-game blocking nonsense as well.
