The upcoming Call of Duty (COD), possibly named “Ghosts” lands a spooky viral teaser that seems to create a skull made of Twitter and Facebook profiles. Users who visit Callofduty.com are instantly redirected to “callofduty.com/______” where they are asked to “find me”. Users can then add their details to the giant Ghost mask. Those who tweet or update their status with the #callofduty hashtag will possibly get their names added to the mask. Here’s the current state of said mask:

We’re COD fans here, and it’s clear that this is a skull, even more clear is that this is the skull of Simon “Ghost” Riley, the solider who was spoiler killed at the end of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Or that’s what the internet wants us to think. A user from forum NeoGAF dug around in the source code of the COD teaser site and found this, the finished teaser art of the ghost-skull.
This, according to an official costume and in-game shots of Simon “Ghost” Riley, looks nothing like the actual character as seen in COD. Note that Ghost from COD hasn’t got a skull-like mask on the top half of his face, only a lower set of grinning teeth. Also, we’ve played COD until our fingers have ached, and that is not the face of Ghost. This is:
Therefore, if this is the Ghost from COD: Modern Warfare 2 it’s either a younger Ghost or a team of specialists with different horror-themed masks. Or it’s something else entirely. Everything is pure speculation, except for perhaps the amount of letters in the newly titled COD. Mashable.com points out that the “callofduty.com/______” site has six underscores which is the same amount of letters as the word “Ghosts”. Seems like a fairly tenuous game of internet hangman being played out on a global scale.
COD: Ghosts was recently revealed thanks to leaked box being shown on British retail store Tesco. The box art and listing for the game was quickly taken down. The upcoming COD is expected to reveal a “next-gen engine” when it possibly releases 4 November 2013 for the Xbox, PS3 and hopefully the PC.
