Loving Naughty Dog’s stellar end-of-world adventure, The Last of Us? Enjoyed playing as Ellen Page, the actress from Inception and Juno? Wrong, despite the tiny Canadian’s likeness to Ellie, one of the lead protagonists from the near-perfect PS3 exclusive, The Last of Us, it’s not her. Page took to Reddit.com’s AMA section (Ask Me Anything) and lets rip on this case of mistaken identity.
Reddit user MozeoSLT opens the floodgates:

This has almost certainly been made clear to you several times, but are you aware how much you look like Ellie from “The Last of Us,” a video game which came out about a week ago. She even sounds like you. So much so that almost everyone assumed it was you playing the role.
Which leads me to my questions:
- How did you like playing the role of a video game character when doing “Beyond: Two Souls?” Do you prefer live action?
- Have you seen any footage of “The Last of Us” and would you have taken the role as Ellie if approached?
To which Page “iamatinycandian” Page replies, “I guess I should be flattered that they ripped off my likeness, but I am actually acting in a video game called Beyond Two Souls, so it was not appreciated.” The likeness is nuts. Have a look at this.
The actress playing Ellie in The Last of Us is in fact, Ashely Johnson an actress who is known for her role in the weepiest film we’ve ever seen, The Help.
Naughty Dog, which revealed still shots for The Last of Us way back in 2011, said that it never intended for Ellen Page to resemble Ellie in-game and call it ”a complete coincidence”. Bruce Straley, director of The Last of Us says that he chose Ashely because the title needed to go a little bit “younger” according to the Eurogamer report.
So we have Sony who never chose Page, and the misidentified actress herself apparently not baring any ill-will towards The Last of Us according to this tweet:
.@pspcarlos not me. Ashley Johnson played the part…so send her the props!! 🙂 @TheVulcanSalute

Is it a case of zombie-filled water under the bridge?
