Here’s the new Nexus 7

The original Nexus 7 is one of the most-loved 7-inch tablets of the past few years. It’s sold millions upon millions of units and now Google’s going to try and bottle lightning twice with this, the new and yet to be named next-gen Nexus 7. Nothing is confirmed, even the source site is careful to “legitimize” these images. With a pinch of salt, take these videos and images you must.

Androidcentral delivers the goods with images and a sneaky video of Google’s upcoming Nexus 7, which is rumoured to show up at next weeks Google event, according to CNET. Google may also announce a new version of Android, but today we’re interested in the new Nexus 7. Well, aren’t you? Here’s the first unofficial shot of it.

The site even managed to get a leaked price. US$229 (R2 300) for the 16GB Nexus 7 and US$269 (R2 700) for the 32GB version. No one can confirm the specs yet, but stuff like a 1.2-megapixel front facing camera and a 5-megapixel rear camera seems to be a fairly stable bet.

Dig that music

As for memory, sources say that we could get a nutty 4GB RAM this time around, which when paired with the rumoured (all these RUMOURS!) Snapdragon S4 CPU could produce the fastest 7-inch Android tablet yet. What is difficult to see in the pictures are the dual speakers, a feature lacking on most tablets save for the exceptional Xperia Tablet Z which is practically drowning in speakers. Finally, Google’s new Nexus 7 is expected to run Android 4.3.

Will Google go for gold with the Nexus 7? Remember, when the original Nexus 7 launched, it was the first device to come with a “pure” Android 4.1 experience. This was one of the primary reasons for its success, so if Google loads the new Nexus 7 first with Android 4.3, it’s going to fly off the shelves faster than a budget iPhone would.
