Oculus Rift CEO Brendan Iribe stated he’s open for Sony and Microsoft to adopt his virtual reality headset. Oculus Rift is popularly known for being compatible with a handful of games including Half Life 2 and Team Fortress 2.

Iribe says that while the company’s focused on developing titles compatible with PC and Android, he would love to see more such developments coming to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Reported by OXM, Iribe says that they “love consoles,” and that “it made more sense” to target PC first because of its openness.
If Microsoft and Sony are willing to play, he is on board. “I hope one or both of the console guys make VR (virtual reality) headsets, or something similar, like an AR (augmented reality).”
“The more that they push into this space, even if it’s a different device, or their own device, a different experience, the more that they’re throwing into AR and VR, the better it is for everybody.”
Another important element is that we should maybe not be rooting for Sony or Microsoft to churn us AR headsets but rather hope for open hardware that leaves room for innovation.
“I think that you will see VR move fast — AR also, but especially VR. You’re going to see rapid innovation, and one of the concerns that we do generally have around consoles is that their life cycles are getting longer all the time — it’s a seven to eight year life cycle, and in eight years, VR is going to be insane. Incredible.”
He further notes how the future of VR and AR is going to play a big part in gaming. Last week we looked at the future of gaming with Google Glass— the possibilities are still very much open.
Either way, open or fixed, we certainly would like to experience Halo or Call of Duty on either console with Oculus Rift. With or without motion sickness.
