Some might say “tacky” while others might say “fabulous!” Covering the sides with 129 Swarovski Pure Brilliance gems, the Sugar has a glossy brushed pink back and is 8.2mm thick. In total, the gems are a massive 5.16 carats which together with the, phone gives it a weight of 156g.
Girly phones, we’ve seen before. One of the phone’s many flaws is its specs. That’s one way of selling off your products — dip it in expensive sparkly things!
To some extent, the Sugar’s designers took as much care on what’s on its insides than it did on its outside. Aside from the fact that it’s covered in glitzy glamorous gems, the Sugar has a 5-inch 1080 Sharp LCD carrying a quad-core MediaTek chip. It also has 2GB of RAM and an option between 16GB and 32GB of on board space.
As we can see in the video, the operating system is Android 4.2 covered in cream. The app icons look different while the home, back and settings buttons are also revamped. The camera’s also impressive with a 8MP on the front and a 13MP on the rear.
While they phone’s all dressed up like you would a doll, its creators completely undermine the need for decent specs. This goes with the stereotype that girls don’t necessarily play high-end games. Mind you, they do.
According to Engadget, the Sugar is to be expected in Europe and China this coming August. No word on the price yet but looking at the world’s most expensive smartphone — the Diamond-encrusted iPhone 4 goes for more than US$5-million.
