New free-to-play MMO War Thunder trailer shows human side of WWII

World War 2 simulator War Thunder, just got a new CGI trailer. With the WWII backdrop, you’ll take on the role of a leather-clad pilot. Developed by Russian Gaijin Entertainment, this free-to-play MMO was given the Greenlight on Steam earlier this year. Although the video’s not in-game footage, it’s a piece of art and definitely worth a watch.

This beautifully put-together video gives you an inside look of your Supermarine Spitfire’s cockpit. The sky being riddled with flying bullets, black smoke and bombs being dropped, is balanced by the sad yet soothing melody. The video puts you in touch and close up with the humanized aspect of the war-torn battlefield of sky, land and sea. As a Spitfire pilot, you’ll cause havoc on all these levels.

There’s also some on-the-ground action of soldiers evading bomb blasts and tanks firing up all kinds of things. What’s a slow-motion scene without someone jumping from an exploding tank? Then there’s the battle cruiser captain spitting orders to his crew and big gun turrets basting off shells. They’re all destroyed in the end.

War Thunder was released last week and is free to download on Steam. War Thunder: Ground Forces is also headed to the PlayStation 4.
