Nokia’s Lumia 1520 ‘Bandit’ 6-inch giant reportedly leaked

If you’ve read our review of the Nokia Lumia 920 you’ll know it’s incredibly chunky. You should also know by now that Nokia isn’t scared of announcing fat screen smartphones like the 4.7-inch Lumia 625. Today, the Nokia 1520 which is also known as Nokia’s Bandit phablet, has allegedly been photographed — and it’s all kinds of big.

Not only does it have a ridiculously scraping-by-tablet-territory sized display, it’s also expected to have impressive high-end specs which is something the Lumia 625 lacks. According to Windows Phone Central, it will host a 6-inch impressive 1080p display and will have a 20 MP PureView camera and a quad-core Snapdragon CPU.

Pictured alongside the Lumia 1020, the Bandit (according to evleaks) looks like a monster– it’s the big red one on the right hand-side if you haven’t noticed.

The same way Apple managed to fit in an extra row of apps when it released the iPhone 5 on iOS 6, the Bandit will have a new column of Live Tiles as shown in the image above. This and “the ability to fit one double wide next to a medium-sized tile” would be needed due to the increased 1080p support found in GDR3– Microsoft’s new update for Windows Phone 8.

Apparently Nokia’s new friendly giant is going to be announced in September together with the so-called Sirius tablet. Seriously. It’s expected to land in US stores by November this year.

For now though, we should see the Bandit’s specs and pecks as mere rumours. Little signs such as the “proto.nokia.com” etching on the bottom of the phone tells us that it was a tester when photographed. Windows Phone Central also declares it cannot verify the legitimacy of the photo or its source. If it gets released, however, let’s just hope you’ll be getting a new pair of pants with bigger pockets.
