Samsung makes the Hennessy official: a dual-screen Android flip phone

Firstly, it’s not associated with the pretty delicious cognac. So don’t flip out, cause Samsung’s going old school, with a twist of course. The Samsung Hennessy W789 has been made official and it’s a little Android flip phone with two touch screens. It’s not high-end but Samsung hopes to win the hearts of the more traditional who miss having that old satisfying clap after a call.

As you might have noticed, the Hennessy is built around a conventional clamshell design. Yes, it’s aiming for the classic look but that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily good-looking. When clamped shut, it looks like two phones glued together. Plus, it seems very bulky.

The dual 3.3-inch touch screens come in at 320 x 480 and the exterior screen will let you send and receive messages or browse the internet. Almost like you would on most Android phones’ lockscreens.

Flipping the Hennessy open, there’s a button interface that’s meant to make your typing experience more convenient. While the smartphone world has already completely moved on to a more touch QWERTY kind of experience (besides BlackBerry of course), there are still some out there who might prefer the traditional number pads. That’s what Samsung thinks at least.

It runs Android 4.1 on a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU and has a dual network support. It has a 1500mAh battery, 8GB with expandable storage option and a 5MP camera.

As per unusual, this strange Samsung hybrid’s camera has a bunch of gimmicky features such as rapid continuous shooting mode and the ability to instantly share your photos with your friends.

There has also been some talk of the Samsung Galaxy Folder which has a similar design but with better specs.

The phone has been made public on a Samsung’s Chinese website but we’re not too sure on when it’s being released in other markets. There’s also no price yet but based on the specs, it’s most-likely to be mid-range (US$200-300). Is the Hennessy one to consider?
