Samsung is bringing Galaxy Gear compatibility to the Galaxy S4, S3 and the Note 2 through an Android 4.3 update. Instead of just being able to pair with the new Galaxy Note 3, the smartwatch wants to become a friendlier device for all Samsung fans.

The company notes that it will further support other devices with separate software updates to be expected later this year. These will initially include the Galaxy S4 mini, S4 Active, Mega 5.8, Mega 6.3, and S4 zoom as mentioned by Engadget.
That’s great news for people who own recent Galaxy devices, but what about the rest of the Android world? One can’t help but wonder why there isn’t just a dedicated Android app for the Galaxy Gear that can work on all Android devices?
For US$500 you can have a second screen on your wrist. This way you can simplify your life even further. You save yourself the time and convenience of not having to take your smartphone out of your pocket.
Speaking of time, the Gear doesn’t even have enough battery life to power itself through one day. The Gear is only compatible with a handful of Samsung apps so you can answer calls and view incoming messages and notifications. Furthermore, you can use it to control your music and by tapping the screen you snap pictures with its 1.9MP camera. Hopefully there will be more added in the near future.
“Extending Galaxy Gear compatibility to more Galaxy devices reflects our deep commitment to continuing to deliver enriched mobile experiences to our consumers,” said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile division.
He further goes on saying “through a significant effort to enhance and enrich the Galaxy experience, Samsung continues to empower our users in their mobile lives and enable smart freedom with Galaxy Gear.”
