Big fun, little price: Wii Mini goes on sale in US for $100

Nintendo hasn’t had the greatest sales in Europe and Japan over the last year or so. Despite this, there is a US$100 Wii Mini going on sale in the US some time in November which promises big fun at a little price.

The Wii Mini has been Canada-exclusive since December last year and is seen as a simple but fun little box of entertainment. It then made its way to Europe and the UK in March. According to Joystick, “Nintendo sold 35 700 units in Canada across its first two months on store shelves.”

The compact system is matte black with a red border, and comes with the popular Mario Kart Wii game, a red Wii Remote Plus controller and a red Nunchuk controller. Mario Kart is probably one of Wii’s most popular titles and works the best when playing multiplayer.

“Wii mini offers the same fun experience as Wii, which has been enjoyed by millions of people around the world,” Scott Moffitt, Nintendo US executive vice president of sales and marketing says.

Although all the Nintendo Wii titles will be available at the edge of your Nunchuck, you won’t be able to jam online. The Wii Mini is not internet compatible. Other features that are removed include GameCube backwards capability, GameCube Memory Card slots, GameCube controller slots, SD-card slot, Component Video output, S-Video output.

“At such a great price, it is an extraordinary value for shoppers this holiday season.” Though the Wii Mini is anti-online, for US$100 you get access to over 1300 Wii games — most of them are enjoyed the most when playing with your friends and family in your living room says Moffitt.
