The Xbox One is out, but where does that leave the humble Xbox 360? In an interview with Gameplanet, Microsoft’s Alan Bowman, VP of sales and marketing, reveals some hidden treasures about Xbox’s past, and drops hints of where it’s headed. Most interestingly, the Xbox 360 will still continue to get “good games”.

Bowman says that the Xbox 360 won’t be dropped, both consoles will continue to receive games and software updates in “parallel”. There are over 70-million Xbox 360 and “the box itself has plenty of headroom technically for creative development.” True story, as games such as Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, Dark Souls II, Titanfall, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Thief and South Park: The Stick of Truth are still to be released for the Xbox 360, and that’s just up until the end of March.
As for exclusive content, Bowman was a little cagier here saying that some developers may do this, but only if they have already “got the expertise” to do so.
Pushing the Xbox One out past the core gamers is Microsoft’s challenge. Steven Blackburn, Xbox lead for New Zealand explains that the current Xbox One consumer are “guys. It’s absolutely as male and core-skewed as you can imagine, but that will change.” Bowman is a little more general, saying that there should be no barrier to the tech.
But this is a long-term game, with Bowman explaining that the Xbox One will launch in further markets “progressively”. With a staggered launch, can the Xbox One finally break the Japanese market, a region where Sony’s PlayStation rules supreme? It depend on the content, and if the local third-party developers can produce stellar titles for the Xbox One.
