PS4 has sold 6-million consoles, 13.7-million games so far

Since the inception and launch of Sony’s next-gen console, the PS4 has sold a staggering 6-million units and 13.7-million games in a scant four months across 57 countries says Venturebeat.

Sony’s got even more stats to share, mostly to do with the “Share” button embedded into the new gamepad. Over 100-million shares have been “captured” by gamers, with 56-million Twitch feeds viewed. For something that we doubted would work (especially in this hellish quagmire of South African internet), we’re glad to see that gamers round the world have enjoyed the function so much. The same gamers have also been keeping in touch with their PS4s on Android and iOS, as the app has been downloaded over 3.6-million times.

The PS Plus service has also seen a dramatic uptake of users. Over 50% of PS4 owners pay for PS Plus, a paid-for (US$18 monthly) service which offers free games to users, as long as they continue to pay for PS Plus. The PS4 also needs PS Plus for online multiplayer, which is something Xbox Live forced users to pay for from the beginning.

The PS4 has also recently been launched in Japan and is off to a “great start” says Sony’s CEO. Since its launch in February, the PS4 has shifted over 370 000 consoles.

When it comes to the top-selling game, the middling Killzone: Shadowfall takes the top spot with 2.1-million sales. But worry not, truly incredible games such as Fez (March 25), Towerfall Ascension (March 11), Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeros (March 18) and Infamous: Second Son (March 21). Sony forecasts over five-million consoles sales by the end of March and by the look of these stats, we can safely say that Sony is going to meet its initially lofty ambitions.

Microsoft’s console, the Xbox One is a little behind and of late February, it’s sold over 3.6-million consoles.
