Samsung Galaxy Note 4 patent reveals three-sided flexible display

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 has been getting all the love recently, but a leaked patent spotted by GSMArena has surfaced online of what is presumably Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 4.

The patent sheds light on possible design ideas the Korean company has for its next flagship phablet device, and they are really quite ambitious. Most ambitious of all? The inclusion of the futuristic YOUM flexible display. But quite astonishingly, the Galaxy Note 4 will sport the YOUM display on no less than three sides. That means, in addition to enjoying a front-mounted touch display, the screen will wrap around the sides of the phone, allowing the user to have more touch controls without obstructing the screen itself.

Although the YOUM flexible display technology has been seen on Samsung concepts before, most notably at last year’s CES 2013, the Note 4 will be the first production model to flaunt the flexible, wrap around screen. See Samsung’s quirky YOUM breakdown at CES 2013 in the video below.

Specifications have been exposed, courtesy of this Chinese news site. Some of these technical specifications, among other bells and whistles, includes a 64-bit Snapdragon CPU, 4GB RAM, dust and waterproofing certification (presumably on par or better than the Galaxy S5’s IP67 specs), a 20MP camera (borrowed from the Galaxy S5?) and a wraparound AMOLED screen will reportedly be an astonishing 3480×2160 resolution.

The size of the phablet will reportedly remain at 5.7″, the same as the Galaxy Note 3.

Yes, if rumours are true, the Note 4 will feature an Ultra HD, tri-sided flexible screen. The phablet will have a higher resolution than most television sets on the market today.

Expect the device’s release sometime around September 2014.
