A ‘less addictive’ Flappy Bird returns this August confirms creator

Near the beginning of 2014, a game called Flappy Bird took over gamers’ hearts, minds and fingers as they endlessly, and fruitlessly tapped towards a high-score. Shortly thereafter its creator Dong Nguyen — who was earning a reported US$50 000 daily from in-app advertisements — pulled Flappy Bird, citing the game’s addictive nature as one of the reasons for its sudden departure.

But today Nguyen confirmed via a tweet that his mega-popular, one-tap endless adventure will return this August with “less addictive” gameplay and multiplayer.

On CNBC’s Closing Bell (a stock and trading show) Nguyen said that the new Flappy Bird has to be less addictive so that people can live their lives to the fullest.

Flappy Bird became a cultural phenomenon despite it having less than stellar gameplay and spawned countless clones during its brief moment of success. The game is no longer available but can be played on this site for free until Nguyen eventually uploads his less addictive version back onto the app store.
