Developers Ubisoft have announced the upcoming sequel to one of gaming’s best open-world shooter, saying that Far Cry 4 will be set in the fictional Himalayan region of Kyrat (we checked on Google Maps), far removed from the steamy jungle settings of Far Cry 3.

Far Cry 4 launches 20 November 2014 for Europe, Middle East and African territories, a mere two days after the US launch. Those who pre-order the Limited Edition gain three exclusive single player ‘Hurk’s Redemption’ missions as well as a friggin harpoon gun called The Impaler.

Hurk was a character from Far Cry 3‘s Insane Edition which included more missions and a bobble head Vaas, the previous games lunatic antagonist.

Along with a release date, Ubisoft was kind enough to share some plot information.

Taking a sharp turn away from the lush island jungles of the top-rated Far Cry 3, Far Cry 4 is set in Kyrat, an untamed region currently ruled by a despotic self-appointed king. But don’t be lulled into a false sense of security by the achingly beautiful views; Kyrat is a wild land full of perils. Once again, players will be able to craft their own stories as they travel through this exotic open world teeming with wildlife – using their wits along with an assortment of powerful weapons and diverse vehicles.

Dan Hay is Far Cry 4‘s executive producer and brings his skills from Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon and Fear 3 to what is sure to be another insanely fun chapter in the Far Cry saga.

“Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans’ expectations,” he said. “Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry 4 will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we’re eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months.”

Ubisoft promises more Far Cry 4 as well as a gameplay reveal at Ubisoft’s E3 press conference.
