Gamers upset that Valve hasn’t actually officially launched its Steam Machine platform yet, can today take comfort in the company’s massive annual Steam Summer Sale.

Valve, through its Steam store, is offering discounts on “thousands” of gaming titles for the next ten days. Although the sale is earlier than last year’s, the company will still be offering its customary daily deals, community choice sales and a sales-orientated meta-game, allowing members to win additional titles. This year, eight-hour flash sales also join the fold, because waiting sucks.
Current daily deals on offer include the dark DayZ, cut by a measly 15% to US$25.49. No one is sure whether creator Dean Hall is unhappy about his game’s addition to the sale, or the meek discount offered by Valve.
Please don’t contact me about why DayZ went on sale. I am as clueless and shocked as everyone else.

Additionally, Far Cry 3 is going for 75% less (both US$7.49), while The Witcher sees a remarkable 80% reduction, now priced at just US$3.99. Of course, these are just a selection of many more available on the store, so expect some seriously great deals in the coming days.
As noted earlier, Valve (being a gaming company) also includes an element of fun and competition in the sale, though the Steam Summer Adventure. The presser explains:
“Collect, trade, and craft 10 Summer Adventure cards that can only be earned during the sale. Players can earn in-game items, community rewards, and points for their team by crafting badges throughout the sale. At the end of each day, the team with the most points wins.”
More details on the adventure can be found on Steam’s dedicated zone.
The sale will end on 30 June at 10am PDT (7pm CAT) but until then gamers will have plenty of time to binge on a selection of marked-down titles.
