Fascinating stuff but it’s horrible for public relations. As The Verge says, Apple could force any company to keep producing parts for it but Cook simply doesn’t believe it’s worth the effort anymore. Also, owning a separate music player is something of a waste of time for most smartphone owners, as even the cheapest Android devices can play media, let alone iPods and iPhones.
The iPod Classic received its final update five years ago and the final iPod (fifth-generation) was released back in 2007 with 160GB of storage. The iPod Touch is now the favoured media player by Apple, and will soon — hopefully — be superceded by the iPod Touch sixth-generation which sadly wasn’t announced by Apple this year.
