PS3 will support PlayStation Now service from 12 May

In about six days time, PS3 gamers will soon be able to enjoy the niceties its early adopter next-gen brethren have for ages. PlayStation NowSony PlayStation’s subscription game and content service, is coming to the PS3 console on 12 May in the US and Canada.

“Now you’ll be able to play a huge library of more than 100 hit PS3 games on PS4 and PS3, as well as select Sony Blu-ray players and TVs, all for one monthly price,” notes Jack Buser, Senior Director of PlayStation Now.

The service is US$20 per month, or US$45 for three months, and if you don’t fancy being locked into a monthly subscription, Sony allows the meek to try the service for free for seven days before penning paper. And in case you’re wondering whether PlayStation Plus is a necessity to use the PlayStation Now service, “Users do not have to be a PS Plus member to enjoy PS3 online multiplayer titles,” notes the Q&A.

What’s more interesting is this little line, further down Buser’s PlayStation Blog article: “The subscription will be coming to more devices soon, and will be adding new games monthly so you always have something fresh to play [emphasis added].”

Currently, the service is on open beta for PS Vita handheld, the PlayStation TV mini-console, some Sony Blu-ray players, and supported Sony smart TVs. Could we perhaps see the service hitting Sony’s Xperia mobile phone range in the future?

Taking a break from speculation, the company has also announced some of the games one can expect this month, including Fat Princess, F1 2014 and Sanctum 2. Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce also makes an appearance and, our evergreen favourite, Farming Simulator, makes its bow too.

Sadly, we’re not sure if Sony will ever debut the PlayStation Now service beyond North American borders, but we wait in hope.

For now, have a look at the games coming to the service this month below.
