Microsoft‘s having a pretty bad start to the week it seems. Xbox Live dropped off the map earlier today for reasons yet unknown. The company has since repitched the core services for Xbox Live users, but social services, Slacker Radio and Xbox Fitness remain limited.
Social services will affect those looking for multiplayer action, but it is currently only affecting Xbox 360 and not Xbox One users. Microsoft notes:

There’s no word on what caused the Xbox Live service to drop, but we’ve seen some pretty malicious attacks on the network and indeed the PlayStation Network in the past, predominantly and recently thanks to hacking collective Lizard Squad.

December 2014 saw the last major outage during which Microsoft, through the FBI, detained the leader of the notorious group. Since then, there has not been any notable or claimed attacks.
Of course, there’s also the possibility that Xbox Live servers suffer from the Monday blues like everyone else.
