Verizon exclusive Sony Xperia Z4v boasts upgraded Quad HD screen

Sony‘s smartphone naming convention is getting a little confusing now, especially when looking at the flagship Xperia Z range. The previous king was the Z3 — simple enough, right? Now, there’s a Z3+, and Z4 and a Z4v, and it’s the latter in this melee of abbreviations that we’re focused on.

The Sony Xperia Z4v is the company’s first quad HD smartphone, which betters the previously used 1920×1080 screen used in the Z3 range. As far as the Z4v goes, there’s a 2560×1440 in the usual 5.2-inch form factor, which means more pixels shoved into the same screen. Overall, that should mean 4K video should look even better from the 20.7MP camera.

And as far as things beyond the screen go, that’s practically the only difference.

There’s a larger battery by a meagre 70mAh (it’s 3000mAh now) and boasts support for 128GB microSD cards alongside its 32GB internal storage. As far as the battery drain on the quad HD screen goes, there isn’t much of an issue here either. Sony claims music play time of 95-hours, which is quite incredible. There’s 3GB of RAM coupled with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 quad-core. We’re not sure how this chip will fare in a thinner body.

It’s also water and dust resistant (IP68 rating), a flapless-waterproofing feature that has been carried over from the Sony Xperia Z3+.

The device will be exclusive to Verizon in the States (we don’t think it will arrive in South Africa, but we can live in hope) and will be available in white and black. No RRP has been set as yet.
