LG Rolly is a solid wand-like foldable keyboard for tablets, smartphones

LG has been churning some great ideas from its Seoul headquarters, and its latest is about as cool as it gets.

Earlier this year, we saw Microsoft debut its foldable keyboard for smartphones and tablets, and now LG has a reply. A much, much cooler reply at that.

Introducing the Rolly. Yes, it’s a strange hipster-inspired name but it’s a rather ingenious little invention. It’s a portable keyboard that, for all intents and purposes, turns into a stick that one can store neatly in a laptop bag or purse. Or pocket, as LG claims.

It’s not a practice in skimping either. LG has shoved the entire QWERTY layout onto the Rolly, which boasts nearly the same pitch as a full sized desktop keyboard. It comes with an intelligent Bluetooth 3.0 connection system too, that can hold two device pairings simultaneously, while a button switches between the two. Essentially, you could use two tablets with one keyboard.

More intriguingly, it seems that LG is planning quite a slew of alternative but premium products in the coming months, according to Seo Young-jae, LG Mobile’s VP of innovative personal devices.

LG Rolly Keyboard is just one of the many premium input devices we’ll be unveiling in the coming months as we expand our accessories offerings.

The goal was to create a product that could add more value to LG smartphones and tablets at the same time offering a unique design proposition that hadn’t been explored before

The LG Rolly will be given some more limelight at IFA 2015 from 4-9 September in Berlin, Germany. The device will first be made available to the US audience, and filter down to European, Latin American and Asian key markets in the “fourth quarter.”
