Watch Apple’s iPhone 6S launch on Windows and beyond

It’s that time of year again when Apple’s livestream will likely drop erratically, features random Chinese audio translations mixed over Tim Cook, or more ludicrously, won’t be available to countless prospective Apple customers running Windows or non-Apple platforms.

That is until now.

Apple has announced that Microsoft Edge, the Redmond company’s new Windows 10 browser, finally has the savvy to support Apple’s livestream format. The browser supports Apple’s HLS technology, so finally the software suite can interpret the incoming message and spit it out in the form of Apple’s livestreamed launch.

Like those running OS X and iOS, Windows 10 users can finally jump aboard the Apple hype train. What does this mean? Life is now as simple as navigating to Apple’s website, and waiting for the livestream to begin.

Apple has published a list of compatible devices which can be viewed below (emphasis added):

Requirements: Live streaming uses Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) technology. HLS requires an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with Safari on iOS 7.0 or later, a Mac with Safari 6.0.5 or later on OS X v10.8.5 or later, or a PC with Microsoft Edge on Windows 10. Streaming via Apple TV requires a second- or third-generation Apple TV with software 6.2 or later.

If you happen to think Windows 10 is terrible and haven’t made the upgrade from Windows 7 or 8 yet, don’t worry, there are workarounds.

You could purchase a new Macbook, but something much simpler and indeed cheaper is using VLC Media Player and this nifty little trick. Note, this works for Android users as well, and we can’t see why it wouldn’t work for those on a Linux-based OS either.
