Episodic gaming has seen a minor revival thanks to Dontnod Entertainment‘s Life Is Strange and Telltale Games‘ recent dally with the Games of Thrones series. But the latter is about to take on one of gaming’s biggest challenges: stuff a story mode into Minecraft.
Its Minecraft: Story Mode series will consist of five episodes, with the first one launching on 13 October 2015 for PC, iOS, Android and Nintendo’s Wii U. And while one might wonder why on earth Mojang‘s hit title, possibly the most open of open world games, needs a story mode well, it’s simple. Not everyone enjoys building hard drives, or farming pigs.

“In Minecraft: Story Mode, playing as either a male or female hero named ‘Jesse,’ you’ll embark on a perilous adventure across the Overworld, through the Nether, to the End, and beyond,” notes episode one’s game trailer description on YouTube.
“You and your friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect; slayers of the Ender Dragon.”
Sounds good? It looks pretty great too, with just a hint of Disney flair about it. But while fans eagerly wait for the final episode of Games of Thrones and Tales From The Borderlands, at least Telltale is expanding its roster.
