PlayStation South Africa has today announced a R500 price drop on the PlayStation 4. This comes after last week’s announcement that the PlayStation 4 was dropping by US$50 in the US.
There is a catch though, as the price drop will only affect the 500GB PlayStation 4 units. Originally priced at R5999.99, the new 500GB price point will sit at R5499.99. We’ve previously seen the price of these consoles drop to the same price on special at select outlets, but this will cement the price point just in time for the Christmas season.

“We are delighted to deliver the PS4 system at its best-ever value just in time for the holiday season, making it more accessible to a broader audience in Europe,” commented SCEE president and CEO Jim Ryan.
The 1TB console will still sell for R5999.99 RRP locally.
When checking online stores Raru and Takealot at the time of writing, neither had stock of the plain 500GB and only the bundles or 1TB Ultimate Edition versions.
In July, Microsoft dropped the price of their 500GB Xbox One units by R800. Even though Microsoft’s new strategy is to apparently not compete directly with Sony, it seems the Japanese giant is intent on staying ahead in console sales numbers.
